Review summary

Crabhands is praised for its clean UI, seamless Spotify integration, and helpful features like new release notifications and playlist management. However, the recent switch to a subscription-based model without transparent communication has caused dissatisfaction among users. Common issues include problems generating Spotify playlists, inability to change linked Spotify accounts, and occasional inaccuracies in notification counts. Despite these drawbacks, many users value the app's core functionalities and the developer's responsiveness to bugs.
Pros
  • Effective integration with Spotify to track new music releases.
  • Clean, intuitive, and user-friendly interface with quick bug fixes.
  • Ability to automatically add new releases to Spotify playlists.
  • Provides useful notifications for new releases from followed artists.
  • Supports record label searches, benefiting DJs and music diggers.
Cons
  • Switch from free to subscription model without clear communication, upsetting many users.
  • Subscription required for features that were previously free, seen as a cash grab.
  • Issues with playlist generation on Spotify, leading to user frustration.
  • Lack of ability to unlink or switch Spotify accounts easily within the app.
  • Notifications sometimes show incorrect or confusing counts of new releases.

Was a fantastic app however hey made this app reliant on a subscription without properly explaining this to existing users instead it came across as them palming it off saying your trial has ended, despite there never being a subscription before. This really is a great app, and with recent communications from the app dev, he seems like a sound guy - this change was very just poorly communicated. The sub is pretty well priced, still considering trying it out.

They changed their model from before. Historically, I had crabhands adding to a Spotify playlist with the artists I followed. Now, I require a subscription to have the app do that. I will immediately be searching for a competitor who will do the same without a subscription, and I will not be reconsidering crabhands unless they backtrack on this new model.
