User Reviews

HDTV Player offers good picture quality and reception with a useful channel signal meter, and works on devices like Nvidia Shield TV after tweaking. However, multiple users report frequent app crashes, problems detecting the HDTV mate device, and no DRM support causing ATSC 3.0 channels to be unwatchable. Additional complaints include inverted colors, limited playback features such as no aspect ratio control or DVR functions, and hardware compatibility issues requiring specific adapters. Overall, it's a promising app but currently plagued by bugs and missing key features.
Pros
  • Good picture quality and reception on supported devices.
  • Useful channel scan signal meter feature.
  • Ability to work with some external HDTV devices when the correct adapter is used.
  • App provides OTA TV playback, including some ATSC 1.0 channels.
  • The app is functional on certain devices like Nvidia Shield TV after configuration.
Cons
  • Frequent bugs and crashes, especially device detection failures.
  • Lack of DRM support limits playback of ATSC 3.0 channels, leading to no video/audio.
  • Inverted color display issue making content unwatchable on some devices.
  • Missing key features such as aspect ratio controls, live pause, rewind, and recording scheduling.
  • OTG cable and device compatibility issues causing detection problems and requiring user adapter changes.

Please update the UI Interface and graphics. Very old school looking.

This app does what it's made for, right down to the letter, however one caveat: Video recording functions don't work on some devices (mostly tablets in my experience.) That aside, the app works. I can scan for channels, sort them by channel number in the Channel Manager, and, as the name suggests, play my local TV stations. I bought the device needed for this to work, and it does. It's just a matter of putting your TV antenna in the right place to get a signal.
