Onpa is designed to help users with hearing difficulties stay aware of their surroundings and communicate more easily. By combining speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS), and local sound detection, Onpa provides a powerful assistant right on your device.

- Conversation Assistance: Quickly convert your speech to text or use saved phrases to respond efficiently in conversations. Onpa stores your preferred phrases locally, making them accessible anytime for faster communication.

- Local Sound Detection: Using the YAMNet sound detection model, Onpa listens for important sounds such as alarms, sirens, or other critical audio cues. You’ll receive timely notifications without constantly monitoring your surroundings.

- Offline Functionality: Your saved phrases and sound detection run locally on your device. Onpa does not send your conversations or data to external servers. Only the Android SpeechRecognizer may use Google’s recognition services when needed, in line with Android’s standard behavior.

- Customizable Settings: Choose the language for speech recognition, manage saved phrases for personalized conversation shortcuts.

- Privacy-Focused: Onpa respects your privacy. All data — including saved phrases and optional display names — is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all personal data.
