User Reviews

Users praise Viz Manga for its large, affordable catalog and mobile reading, making it a strong value for manga fans. However, several recurring issues dampen the experience: gaps and removals in the library, chapters locked behind the subscription with only a few free chapters, slow backfill of new chapters due to licensing, and some UI/UX limitations. Licensing structure and multiple apps also frustrate some users. Overall, a solid value but with notable caveats around availability and updates.
Pros
  • Large, diverse catalog including classics and popular titles
  • Very affordable subscription with strong value for back catalog access
  • Ability to read manga on the go via the Viz Reader
  • Some series offer free early chapters to try before subscribing
  • Overall positive sentiment as a reliable manga subscription app
Cons
  • Catalog is incomplete or inconsistent; popular titles can be missing or removed
  • Many chapters are locked behind the subscription; readers can access only a limited number of chapters without paying
  • Update/backfill delays; licensing results in slow or irregular chapter releases
  • User interface/experience could be smoother and navigation could be improved (e.g., smoother page transitions)
  • Perceived licensing structure and separate apps can feel like double-dipping or restrictive access

Let's be real here, separating shonen from the small line up in this app is a joke. And with two separate subscription prices, it's like an assassin charge you would miss on your bank statements. I would recommend reading what you want and cancelling after to get your money's worth.

This low score is due to the difficulty I'm having in swiping to turn pages. I sometimes swipe four or five times before getting the page to turn.

The best value in manga right now, but a lot of them have middle chapters that don't get updated fast enough. Also, it's a very mixed bag. Some of the best manga, but also some of the worst or most niche. Also many old manga that are still good today. Old doesn't necessarily mean bad. A small amount of manga are rated R but aren't labeled as such, so be careful. The phone UI ain't great though. Horizontal viewing should be one page at a time.
