Box Remote Buddy for TV Android

Box Remote Buddy for TV

Lets the Box Remote Buddy phone app control this TV box over your Wi-Fi.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Box Remote Buddy for TV (shown on your TV as "Box Remote Agent") runs on your Android TV box and turns button presses from the Box Remote Buddy phone app into real remote-control presses: arrows, OK, Back, Home, volume, play and pause, plus an app list and typing from your phone.

How it works
1. Install this app on the TV box and open it once. It walks you through one or two switches in the box's settings.
2. Install Box Remote Buddy on your phone, on the same Wi-Fi. It finds the box by itself.
3. The TV shows a 4-digit code the first time. Type it in the phone app. Done.

On your own Wi-Fi, button presses go straight from your phone to the box. A paired phone can also control the box from away from home; those presses travel through our encrypted relay server, which passes them on without storing them. There is no account and no sign-in.

About the accessibility service
This app uses an accessibility service. Here is everything it does:
• Presses keys, Back and Home, opens apps and taps the screen when you use the Box Remote Buddy phone app, or when your seller helps you.
• During setup it reads this box's Settings screens to find and choose its own keyboard.
• When you pair your phone from the phone app, it opens the TV's Bluetooth settings and selects your phone; you answer the TV's Pair question yourself. It never changes other settings.
• When you press Get help, it captures what is on the TV and sends a live picture to your seller over the internet; your seller can also see this box's list of apps and press its remote buttons, until the session ends.
Nothing it reads is stored or sold.

The keyboard is how arrow keys and typed text reach the box; it also works with the physical remote.

What the app sends
Anonymous usage events, such as "setup finished" or "the remote service stopped", with the app version, the box model and a random install ID, so problems can be found and fixed. It never sends what is on your screen (except during a Get help session you start), your network details or anything personal. To check whether this box is activated, it also sends the box's Android ID and the code shown on the TV to our activation server.

Works with Android TV boxes running Android 10 and newer, including vSeeBox models. Not affiliated with or endorsed by vSeeBox. A phone cannot turn the TV itself on or off or change the TV's own volume.

Requires a one-time activation per TV box, purchased separately.
