Universal Password Manager

UPM is a cross platform password manager for storing sensitive information

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Universal Password Manager (UPM) is a cross-platform password manager designed to securely store usernames, passwords, URLs, and notes in an AES encrypted database. Protected by a single master password, it ensures sensitive information remains private and accessible only by you.

Please note that UPM is no longer actively developed or supported. The extension remains available for existing users, but new users are encouraged to select alternative password managers. Internet access is only required if you use the Remote Database feature, offering flexible access to your encrypted data across devices.

User Reviews

Users broadly praise the app for being simple, private, and long-used across devices, with support for encrypted Dropbox backups. However, recurring problems include Dropbox sync/restore failures, Samsung UI button overlaps, difficult cross-device migrations, and occasional master-password access issues. These multi-review themes highlight reliability and usability challenges around backups, device compatibility, and password recovery.
Pros
  • Simple, lightweight, and easy to use.
  • Strong privacy and security with a master password protecting all saved credentials.
  • Long-standing app used by many years across devices.
  • Supports encrypted backups to Dropbox for backup/restore.
Cons
  • Dropbox sync/backups are unreliable; restore often fails on new devices and linking can fail, with some users limited by the 3-device Dropbox policy.
  • UI overlaps on certain Samsung Galaxy devices (buttons collide with the navigation bar, hindering use).
  • Migration/backup across devices is problematic, with upgrades sometimes erasing data or failing to restore, requiring manual re-entry.
  • Master password management issues can lock users out (forgetting or changing the password may not be accepted).

If you ever have to get a new phone, all of your passwords will be lost because there's a bug that won't let you restore anything you save in the app. Your main password won't even work on your new device.
