Coverage? Android

Coverage?

Directly overlay and compare cellular carrier coverage maps!

Features & Capabilities

Coverage? is a powerful tool for travelers and mobile data users to overlay and compare cellular carrier coverage maps across the USA and Canada. Compatible with major carriers like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Dish/Boost, US Cellular, and Canadian providers Bell, Telus, and Rogers, this extension helps you visualize and plan coverage areas effectively. It works offline, storing compressed regional-level maps right on your device, covering urban and rural areas, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Featuring overlays for 5G, LTE, and roaming areas, Coverage? lets you customize your coverage viewing preferences. Celebrated as an "Essential Tool" by Wired Magazine and noted by Lifehacker as "indispensable," Coverage? is ideal for technomads and travelers who rely on mobile connectivity. The app offers optional HD maps updated quarterly via subscription, ensuring up-to-date information for users. While map data is sourced through partnerships with Ookla and carrier insights, it does not guarantee precise signal strength but provides a reliable visual reference to help users stay connected.

User Reviews

Users appreciate the app's user-friendly layout and its utility in comparing carrier coverage for planning purposes. However, a majority report significant inaccuracies in coverage maps, missing or disappearing overlays, and misleading coverage indications. Paid HD maps often do not display as expected, sometimes requiring additional payments. The app lacks detailed signal strength data, showing only basic coverage presence or absence. Some users experience app crashes and need restarts, lowering overall reliability.
Pros
  • Allows comparison of coverage among major carriers.
  • User interface is fairly easy to understand and well laid out.
  • Good for planning trips and deciding on signal boosting equipment.
  • Tech support is responsive and helpful when purchase problems occur.
Cons
  • Coverage maps are often inaccurate or misleading, showing coverage where none exists.
  • Map overlays sometimes disappear or fail to show correctly, requiring toggling or restarting the app.
  • HD maps purchased require additional payments or fail to display properly despite payment.
  • The app provides only binary coverage (service/no service) without signal strength details or real-time user data.
  • App stability issues reported, including freezing and needing phone restart.

This app is pretty good, I found a bug though that when you rotate your screen back and forth, the coverage areas disappear even though the buttons for LTE etc are all checked. You have to check and uncheck the buttons to bring back the map overlays.

This is completely innacurate. I tested our location, knowing that we get zero AT&T signal at our house, and the map shows LTE coverage. We used to have AT&T but switch to Verizon when we moved because we would only get coverage if we used a MicroCell to connect via the internet.
