Bagh Chal: Chautari

Sit down at the chautari and play Bagh Chal, the traditional game of Nepal, against a friend or the computer.

Two old friends, Harihar and Bed Prasad, sit on a mat under a peepal tree with the board between them. One plays twenty goats, the other plays four tigers. Place your goats, slide them, and trap the tigers. Or capture five goats and win as the tigers. The goats always move first.

HOW YOU CAN PLAY
• Against the computer, with levels to choose from. This works without internet.
• Two players on one phone: pass the screen after each move.
• Online with a friend: share a code or an invite link by WhatsApp, message or email. If the connection drops, the game takes you back into the same match.

A VILLAGE YOU CAN WATCH
• Real recorded voices in Nepali and English. Choose the screen language and the voice language separately.
• The elders talk, think and react as you play. A radio sits beside them.
• Change the time of day and the weather. Play in the village, at the lakeside, or at Mount Everest.
• Optional voice chat during online games: hold a button to talk. It needs microphone permission and is never recorded.

MADE TO PLAY ANYWHERE
• Choose a 3D view, a 2D board, or a simple view.
• The game lightens its picture on phones that run warm or slow, and starts on the 2D board on phones that cannot run the 3D scene.
• Your unfinished game is saved, so you can come back to it.
• Hint and undo help you learn the game.
