Shrine progress only accrues while the hoop stays upright inside the ritual speed band. Leaves, puddles, and broken bricks change friction and tip risk; falling returns you to the last torii checkpoint, and overspeed freezes progress until you settle. Reach gates for flat bonuses, keep a long clean pilgrimage chain, and treat the gauge as a manners meter, not a race timer.
