User Reviews

The Philips Smart TV app has potential as a remote control replacement and offers useful TV control features. However, many users experience frequent connectivity issues where the app fails to find or connect to the TV, especially after updates. There are frustrations with added permission requests like location and camera access, which seem unnecessary. UI changes and removal of features such as dark mode and ease of access have degraded the user experience. Stability problems including crashes and disconnections are common. Overall, users find the app unreliable and cumbersome following recent updates.
Pros
  • Works well as a remote control when it connects to the TV.
  • Allows controlling certain TV features like channel list and Ambilight (though limited).
  • Useful as a backup remote if the physical TV remote is lost.
  • App supports communication between different Wi-Fi signals (2.4G and 5G).
Cons
  • Frequently fails to connect or find the Philips TV on the network.
  • Requires location permission unnecessarily, which users find intrusive.
  • Recent updates introduced poorer UX: more steps to access functions, removal of dark mode, slow or clunky interface.
  • App crashes often and disconnects quickly when switching apps or leaving it.
  • Limited or broken functionality in new versions: voice search not working, inability to control Ambilight fully, no text input, no virtual touchpad, issues turning TV on remotely.

Rarely ever finds the TV.. what's the point of the app, if your core, foundational, fundamental, basic, essential functionality doesn't work.. How did this go live if it obviously doesn't work?!
