User Reviews

Open Note Scanner is praised for being open source, ad-free, and capable of good scans without distortion, with an improved document detection feature in some versions. However, multiple users report poor or inconsistent auto document detection, lack of manual cropping tools, subpar scan quality, and missing features like filter adjustments and page arrangement. Some also find the app hard to use due to insufficient guidance. Overall, it has potential but needs refinement to compete with more polished commercial apps.
Pros
  • Open Note Scanner is open source and free with no ads.
  • The app has potential and users appreciate its simple interface.
  • It performs near flawless scans without cutting corners or distorting images.
  • The PDF export option is appreciated even though it needs improvement.
  • The app has improved document detection in some cases, especially on challenging backgrounds.
Cons
  • Auto document detection is inconsistent or does not work well on many devices.
  • There is a lack of manual cropping or page boundary adjustment tools.
  • Scan quality and image processing can be inferior and sometimes produce unreadable results.
  • The app lacks polish and important features like filter adjustments, page arrangement, and DPI quality settings.
  • Users find the app not intuitive with little guidance or tutorials on usage.
Recent reviews
Cropping capabilities will vastly improve the app experience. Poor processing power, can't be used when scanning colourful documents (economy grade output).

This app has a lot of potential, but lacks what can be found in freemiun commercial apps, and even an open source app like OpenScan. It's just missing an intro demo to show users how the app works, more filters (which can be adjusted and added/edited after the scan), a page perspective tool, crop tools, and DPI quality adjustments.
