Offline field tool for rangers | maps, mesh comms, reports & task tracking.
TerraField is a field-operations app built for the people who work where the cellular network doesn't reach — rangers, conservation teams, wildlife monitors, search-and-rescue crews, and remote site operators.
It is designed from the ground up to be useful when you are off-grid, in low light, and in a hurry. Every core feature works without a network connection. Maps, forms, language packs, and your captured observations all live on the device and sync the moment a signal comes back.
KEY FEATURES
Offline-first maps and situational awareness
View your area of operations on a dark, high-contrast map tuned for outdoor and night use. Your current position, your teammates, sites of interest, and active tasks are all visible at a glance. Tiles and overlays are cached on the device so the map keeps working in remote terrain.
Mesh radio communications
TerraField speaks the Meshtastic protocol over Bluetooth-paired LoRa radios, so your team can stay in touch across kilometres of bush, mountain, or coastline with no cell tower required. Send text messages and locations to teammates over the mesh.
Guided field workflows
Built-in workflows make it fast to capture what you see and what you do:
• Observations — record wildlife sightings, plant surveys, and incidents with photos and GPS.
• Photo reports — attach geo-tagged photos to a report and queue them for upload.
• Tasks — start, track, and complete assigned patrols and jobs; the app records a GPS trail of your route while a task is active.
• Emergency — a fast path to flag distress and share your location.
Search and ask
Find sites, contacts, species, tasks, and reference material quickly. The "Ask" assistant helps you look up information you would otherwise need a manual or a radio call for.
Multilingual interface
The user interface ships with multiple languages bundled on the device, so language selection works on first launch with no network. Useful for international teams and indigenous-ranger programmes.
Designed for the field
• Dark UI optimised for low-light use and long battery life.
• Large hit-targets and clear typography for use with gloves and at arm's length.
• Sensors integration — compass, GPS, motion — for accurate bearing and trail data.
• Speech-to-text for hands-free note capture during patrols.
WHO IT IS FOR
• Park and conservation rangers
• Wildlife monitoring and research teams
• Indigenous ranger and Country-management groups
• Search-and-rescue volunteers
• Anti-poaching and patrol units
• Remote-site inspectors and field crews
WHAT TO EXPECT
TerraField is a tool, not a social network. It does not show ads. It does not surface notifications you didn't ask for. Your observations, reports, and trail data are yours and your organisation's — they go to your team's configured backend, not to a marketplace.
PERMISSIONS
TerraField asks for the permissions it needs to do its job in the field:
• Location, including background and foreground-service location, so it can record the GPS trail of an active task while your screen is off or the app is in your pocket. Trail recording only runs while you have explicitly started a task.
• Camera and microphone for capturing photos and voice notes attached to reports.
• Bluetooth, for connecting to your Meshtastic mesh radio.
• Notifications, so you can be alerted to messages and task updates.
GETTING STARTED
Open the app, pick your language, grant the permissions you want to enable, and you are ready. If your organisation uses TerraField, your supervisor will provide the configuration you need to join your team. For evaluation, the core map, observation, and report features work standalone.
Field-ready. Offline-first. Built for the work.
