Insekten Sachsen

The Insect Saxony app is designed for recording insect observations in the wild. The app also works outdoors without a connection to the internet, but the map view is then not available. In this situation, the coordinates can still be determined using the smartphone's GPS module. The app contains diagnoses and photos for 670 species, including all butterflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers and ladybirds as well as representatives of almost all native insect orders. There is also an interactive identification aid for all local butterflies and grasshoppers. Observations should be documented with photos or audio (locust songs) in order to be able to check the species identification. Species identification is supported by an AI model from Naturalis (Leiden, Netherlands).

Registration is possible both in the app and on the Insect Saxony portal. Observations recorded can be viewed in the discovery list and can be synchronized there with the Insect Saxony portal. After synchronization, these observations are checked and released on the Insect Saxony portal. Once released, the data will be visible in the portal in the interactive map with the information quadrant of the topographic map 1:25,000, name of the person and year of observation. There is no update of the data in the app, but your own data can be downloaded at any time as an Excel table.
