AgroMeter – the first step to managing your fields

AgroMeter is a mobile app for agronomists and farmers designed to measure field and plot area using GPS, create field maps, and manage records.

If your farm lacks precise field area data and crop rotation histories, field passports, and work performed are kept in notebooks, notepads, or spreadsheets, AgroMeter will help organize this information by consolidating it into a single field management system.

► AgroMeter allows you to:
– measure area and determine field and plot boundaries using GPS;
– mark control points (weed clumps, boundary points, obstacles, and other objects);
– display fields, plots, their boundaries, and control points on the app map;
– perform all operations without an internet connection (offline).

After completing the measurements, a database of fields and plots is automatically generated and displayed on the app map.

► The application uses this field and plot database to:
- manage crop rotations;
- maintain field work logs;
- store field passports;
- track control points;
- store other farm information.

Furthermore, AgroMeter allows data exchange between application users. For example, the field database can be exported to a file and shared with other AgroMeter users via any messenger.

► Measuring Field Area by GPS
Measuring the area of ​​a field or plot is performed by sequentially walking around or driving through its corner points, recording GPS coordinates, and then automatically calculating the area.
This is one of the most reliable and practical methods for determining field area directly in the field.

An internet connection is not required to perform measurements.

The area calculation is performed using an algorithm based on the GeographicLib library, one of the most authoritative libraries for geodetic calculations. The algorithm takes into account the curvature of the earth's surface, ensuring high accuracy even for large fields and complex areas.

Measurement accuracy depends primarily on the accuracy of GPS coordinates for field corner points, which can be affected by the quality of the smartphone's GPS receiver, the number and relative positions of satellites, forest belts, buildings and structures, metal objects, terrain features, and other factors.
For the most accurate results, it is recommended to determine coordinates in an open area, pausing at each corner point for 15-20 seconds. If measuring from a vehicle, it is recommended to record the coordinates holding the smartphone outside the cabin or after exiting the vehicle.

► When to measure area
Field area is usually measured once.
The area of ​​individual sections can be measured repeatedly:
– when dividing a field into sections with different crops or varieties;
– when determining treated and untreated areas after spraying, tillage, and other agricultural operations.

► Accurate field and plot area data is necessary for proper planning of needs for:
– seeds;
– crop protection products;
– fertilizers;
– fuel and lubricants.
