User Reviews

Most reviews cite the app as a potentially valuable accessibility tool for Deaf/HOH users, but its widespread problems overshadow benefits. The top concerns are privacy/security (IP location access and unencrypted data), reliability (internal errors and dropped calls), onboarding/login lockouts, notification/accessibility gaps (missed alerts and unreadable messages), and poor customer support. A few users report positive experiences on certain devices, but recurring issues dominate overall.
Pros
  • Provides essential text-relay accessibility for Deaf/Hard‑of‑Hearing users when the service works on Wi‑Fi.
  • When it functions, reviewers report smooth text communication and easy login on some devices.
  • Some users describe it as a blessing or freedom, acknowledging its value for accessible communication.
Cons
  • Privacy and security concerns: IP location access and statements that data isn’t encrypted raise data-collection and security worries.
  • Reliability issues: repeated 'internal error' messages, calls often failing or dropping, and overall instability.
  • Login/onboarding problems: getting locked out after login attempts, 'too many incorrect logins', and needing to contact support.
  • Notification and accessibility gaps: missing persistent notifications, unreliable incoming message display, and text readability/color issues.
  • Customer support and service quality: rude/unhelpful or unresponsive support.

it has greatly improved on receiving calls!

I reported this in 2023 and it's still happening! Missing important calls because there is no notification icon to keep app alive. Android OS is aggressive about closing background apps AND services. To prevent this, add a notification icon. 5 stars when this is fixed.

Invasive and unreliable. To use T-Mobile's IP Relay, you must grant access to your IP location, including your home network. The app even states data isn't encrypted. Worst of all, while it allows 911 calls, T-Mobile makes you agree they are not responsible for any failures if the call doesn't go through. It feels like a data collection tool, not a reliable accessibility service, and even conflicts with other paid T-Mobile features.
