Like so many great ideas, Spanx was born out of necessity. In 1998, Spanx founder Sara Blakely needed stomach-smoothing shapewear to wear under a pair of pants. She grabbed a pair of scissors, lopped off the feet of a pair of control-top pantyhose, and instantly solved a common wardrobe problem. Since then, the Spanx brand has continued to provide women (and men) with excellent shapewear. Today, shoppers can find shapewear options to wear with every ensemble, ranging from bodysuits with plunging necklines to stomach-concealing shorts. While Spanx has expanded beyond shapewear, most of its products are infused with its proprietary Spanx technology. Loungewear like leggings is designed to flatten stomachs and slim legs, and the tops feature arm-slimming technology. Bras are available in many styles, ranging from full-coverage bras for everyday use to strapless bras perfect for backless dresses.
