Review summary

EDS is a reliable app for mounting encrypted containers like VeraCrypt and LUKS, favored for its strong encryption support and excellent developer support. However, users frequently complain about a confusing interface and usability issues, occasional instability, the requirement for root for some features, and limited network share support. Despite these drawbacks, it effectively secures sensitive files and remains useful for users needing encrypted container access on Android.
Pros
  • Reliable and has been functional for several years without failure.
  • Supports secure container formats such as VeraCrypt and LUKS, making it suitable for sensitive files.
  • Developer provides excellent technical support and quickly addresses user issues.
  • App performs its intended function well as a secure vault for sensitive files rather than a replacement for the file system.
  • Works well on certain modern Android devices and supports syncing with other machines via Syncthing-fork.
Cons
  • User interface is confusing, poorly designed, and not intuitive to use; many functions require non-obvious interactions.
  • Mounting encrypted volumes may require root access, which some users want to avoid; no root workaround is available for certain features.
  • App can be unstable or crash frequently on some devices or custom ROMs, causing frustration.
  • Support for network shares is limited and insecure (only SMB1 supported), with slow performance and connection issues reported.
  • Write speeds are slow even on decent devices, and certain features like external file browser or mounting encrypted USB drives are missing or problematic.

The interface is not good. It is, however, consistently functional. Goodness knows I've seen MUCH worse. The function it advertised is performed and it is done effectively. This is rare enough to be remarkable. Do I love it? No, I do not. Is it the only effective piece of software that does exactly what it does on the android platform? From what I can tell, yes.

After communication with the app developer I managed to open a container file. Unfortunately for opening encrypted partition is still needed a root, from what was explained. Personally I don't want to root my dev, thus had to change the used method. Keeping in mind that complete partition encryption is more secure, it would be really great upgrade, if technically is possible to make it work without root. exFAT works after correct file from the developer. Needs alittle bit more intuitive to be.
