DriveDroid allows you to boot your PC from ISO/IMG files stored on your phone. This is ideal for trying Linux distributions or always having a rescue-system on the go... without the need to burn different CDs or USB pendrives.

DriveDroid also includes a convenient download menu where you can download USB-images of a number of operating systems from your phone (like Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE and Arch Linux). Around 35 different systems are available at this moment.

You can also create blank USB-images which allows you to have a blank USB-drive. From your PC you can store files onto the USB-drive, but also use tools on your PC to write images to the drive.

Notes
• This application uses features of the kernel that may or may not be available/stable on your phone. Tests have shown most phones work without problems, but please keep in mind yours might not (yet) work out-of-the-box.
• Most kernels support emulating USB drives, some support emulating CD-rom drives and kernels with the right patches support both.
• Most Linux-related ISOs can be booted from USB drives, but some ISOs can only be booted from CD-rom drives or require some kind of conversion.

Pros

Extremely useful for booting ISO files for system installations.
Works with a variety of Android versions and ROMs.
Eliminates the need for physical media like USB drives and CDs/DVDs.
Allows for creative troubleshooting and experimentation.
Can work across multiple devices if rooted.

Cons

Requires root access to function properly.
Development has stopped, leading to compatibility issues with newer devices.
Some users experience connectivity issues based on device model.
The built-in ISO downloader is reported to be broken.
Some ISO images are missing or unable to load.

one of the most useful app for android phones. too bad that devs dont uodate it anymore. i still use it with my zenphone 2 but the usb port is not so stable anymore and i lose connection quite often. ive read that the app does not work with newer android.

Worked first try! It's almost 2023 but this gem still works. OnePlus 9 Pro, Android 11, rooted, ubl. Magisk 25. The downloader built in is broken now but I manually downloaded and pushed to my newly created droiddrive folder and it was recognized. Click on the ISO you want to use and set it as Host before connecting to PC

An extremely useful tool, one that I used when I was able to get a couple of my devices rooted. However I have not been able to get any of my more recent devices rooted. It's too bad that this app absolutely needs root access in order to mount the images. This app became part of my troubleshooting tool kit, but I had forgotten that it requires root. It is still a great app and tool though
