Music Diary

Music Diary is an app for tracking your regular instrument practice. Built with stringed-instrument players in mind (guitar, violin, cello), but useful to anyone who picks up an instrument.

▸ WHAT'S INSIDE

— Session timer with per-piece blocks. A continuous session timer plus a separate timer for each block — so you can see exactly how long you spent on each piece.
— "Planned session": the app builds your session for you — warm-up, technique, learning, review, improvisation — picking material based on how long since you last played it, how far off tempo you are, and other signals, and explains why it picked each item. Related items can be interleaved, or you can just play freely instead.
— BPM control with history. Every tempo change is logged with a timestamp; the graph shows how tempo evolved over time.
— Metronome with a choice of click sound (5 built-in presets or your own audio file) and MIDI Clock. One BPM control drives clicks in your headphones and the synced clock sent to a USB pedal/looper.
— View Guitar Pro tabs (.gp, .gp3, .gp4, .gp5, .gpx, .gp7). The score opens full-screen in the built-in viewer, with track selection.
— Pieces and exercises as separate entities. Exercises track current goal BPM plus min/max; pieces have a master target tempo and composer. Both support fragments with their own measure numbering.
— Two-level user-editable category tree for exercises (scales, arpeggios, right-hand technique, etc.) — flexible, opinionated by you.
— Session history with clear stats. An activity bar, a calendar heatmap, a category breakdown chart (warm-up/technique/learning/review/improvisation), and a tempo sparkline for every piece.
— Fretboard trainer: a note-recognition drill on a fretboard diagram. Drill stats show up as their own cards in History.
— Notes and attachments. Sessions, blocks, and pieces can carry free-form notes, photos, files and links.
— Interface in Russian and English, switchable from settings.

▸ PRINCIPLES

— Offline-first. All data lives on your device; nothing is sent anywhere unless you ask it to.
— No account, no mandatory sign-up.
— The History screen and the session summary screen show light, non-intrusive ads; there are none during active practice or in creation/edit forms. Ad personalization can be turned off in settings.
— The timer survives minimize, rotation, and even a killed process — the session is restored on next launch.
