Smart Keys: Darija Keyboard

Smart Keys is a private, on-device keyboard for people who speak Moroccan Darija — at home and in the diaspora.

Three original layouts, one tap apart
• English (QWERTY) and French (AZERTY) layouts for everyday typing.
• Arabic layout with the Arabic alphabet, plus a symbols page with Arabic-Indic digits (٠١٢٣٤٥٦٧٨٩) on the Arabic layout.
• The layout key on the keyboard switches between EN / AR / FR and remembers your choice.

Franco typing, optional
Enable "Franco typing" in the app settings. On the Arabic layout, type Latin letters and the keyboard converts them to Arabic on space or enter — for example typing "kifach" produces "كيفاش". It is off by default, so the Arabic layout stays fully Arabic if you prefer.

Offline Darija suggestions
While typing in Arabic — with Franco or with direct Arabic letters — up to three suggested words appear in a strip above the keys. Tap one to replace the word you are typing. The list is a small starter dictionary bundled with the keyboard: it works with no internet connection and nothing is uploaded.

Private by design
• No account, no ads, no analytics, and no network use.
• Preferences (dark theme, haptics, layout, Franco mode) are stored only on your device.
• The word you are typing and the suggestion lookups live in memory for the session and are neither stored nor transmitted.
• The production build requests no Internet permission.

Comfortable by default
• Dark theme that applies to both the keyboard and the settings app.
• Optional haptic feedback on key presses.

Enable Smart Keys
1. Open Android Settings.
2. Go to System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard.
3. Tap Manage keyboards and turn on "Smart Keys".
4. Open any text field and choose Smart Keys from the keyboard switcher (globe icon).

Smart Keys is an original, independent keyboard. It is not affiliated with, or based on, any other keyboard product.
