ShelterMe

ShelterMe is an Israeli community-driven app that helps users locate nearby public shelters and navigate to them using location-based mapping.

The app aggregates shelter locations from publicly available geographic data and enhances them with community contributions to improve coverage and accuracy. Supported location types may include public shelters, schools, hospitals, underground parking areas, and other structures that may provide protection.

During emergency situations, the app can assist users in identifying nearby shelters and navigating towards them based on their current position. Alert indications are based on publicly available data and are used to estimate whether a user may be within an affected area.

ShelterMe relies on a combination of official and public data sources:
- Shelter and geographic data is sourced from the Israeli Government Map Service (https://www.govmap.gov.il).
- Alert data is obtained from publicly accessible endpoints provided by the Home Front Command (https://www.oref.org.il).
- Additional publicly available alert aggregation services (such as https://www.tzevaadom.co.il) are used only to map alert regions to geographic areas.

ShelterMe is not an official government application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing any government authority, including the Home Front Command.

The app is free to use and does not require login. Users who choose to sign in can contribute by reporting shelters or suggesting new ones, helping improve the shared dataset for everyone.
