MUI - Maritime Union Of India

The Maritime Union of India (MUI) represents Merchant Navy Officers and is affiliated with the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) and Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS). With a branch in Kolkata and liaison offices in Chandigarh, Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Tuticorin, MUI engages with government and semi-government maritime boards, seafarer training institutes, and welfare organizations to protect members' rights and employment prospects.

MUI negotiates collective agreements with domestic and international ship owners and managers, ensuring compliance with national laws and the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006. The union sustains welfare funds, provides legal, medical and taxation guidance, and offers Certificate of Competency (CoC) protection for members facing inquiries or suspensions. MUI also publishes the quarterly journal "OCEANITE" and is governed by an elected Executive Committee under the Indian Trade Union Act, working as a partner with the shipping fraternity to promote fair work, wages and seafarer welfare.
