User Reviews

OneStep Reader offers good OCR features useful for visually impaired users and has many helpful functions. However, users commonly report it is very expensive with no true free trial, making it hard to evaluate before purchase. The app often crashes or stops working after Android updates, particularly with Android 10, and customer support is unresponsive. These issues cause frustration, and many users feel the app is unreliable and not worth the high price. Overall, while potentially valuable, the app has serious stability and accessibility problems.
Pros
  • The app provides good OCR (text recognition) quality when it works.
  • It has many useful features that can help visually impaired users read documents.
  • Some users found it compatible with certain older devices and Android versions.
  • Has potential to be very useful for low vision and blind users when functioning properly.
Cons
  • The app is very expensive with a high price tag (~$100).
  • No free trial or limited free usage to test the app before buying, leading to user dissatisfaction.
  • The app frequently crashes or stops working after Android OS updates, especially Android 10.
  • Customer support is unresponsive or very slow, leaving users without help.
  • The app is not functional on some devices and often fails to open or crashes immediately.
  • The app's DRM causes it to break after OS updates, which frustrates paid users.
  • Many users feel it is a wasted investment due to the instability and lack of trial usage.

it's an absolute disgrace that they are asking over a €100 for an app like this. The only reason they can ask this amount is because in some European countries the government might give financial support to people with a visual disability. For the unlucky people who don't get this financial support, spending €100 on an app like this is basically unjustifiable and why would you, if you can't even get a trail to see if it actually works, supports your language and fulfills your expectations...
