SafetyCam: Background Recorder

SafetyCam is a background video recorder with audio capture, photo bursts and an encrypted vault. After an intentional start, recording can continue while you use other apps or turn off the screen, subject to Android and device restrictions.

Use it for personal safety, incident documentation, lectures or work records. Recordings are never uploaded automatically.

ACCESSIBILITYSERVICE API (OPTIONAL)
SafetyCam uses Android's AccessibilityService API for optional Start/Stop via the Android Accessibility button, selected Volume Down double/triple press, or shake outside the app. Enable it after a separate in-app disclosure and affirmative consent. In-app Start/Stop needs no Accessibility access.

It processes selected Volume Down timing or accelerometer motion briefly on-device, never stores or shares this input, and never uses it for ads or analytics. It cannot read screen content or perform gestures; volume works normally. Disable it in Android Accessibility settings anytime. Wake the display before Volume Down Start/Stop; screen-off inputs depend on your device. It does not bypass recording permissions, privacy indicators or secure device locks, or record calls.

🧩 LONG RECORDINGS & FILE CHUNK SPLITTING
Manage longer sessions:
• Automatic file chunk recording divides long videos into manageable segments
• Completed chunks can be saved before later recording segments finish
• Set a maximum recording duration

🔐 PRIVATE ENCRYPTED VAULT & GALLERY LOCK
Control access to saved media:
• Every recording is encrypted on-device with Android Keystore-backed AES-GCM encryption
• Optional six-digit Gallery passcode and biometric unlock (fingerprint or face) safeguard saved media
• Start and stop recording freely without needing to unlock the private vault
• Review recordings inside the app player, inspect recording details, and view photo burst sequences
• Optional SHA-256 recording fingerprints support data integrity checks

🎛️ VERSATILE RECORDING MODES
Choose a mode:
• Video Recorder: video with optional microphone audio
• Voice Recorder: audio-only recording mode when camera capture is not needed
• Photo Burst: capture a continuous series of still images

📁 FLEXIBLE STORAGE & MEDIA EXPORT
Choose storage and copies:
• Store encrypted recordings in internal app storage, app-specific SD card storage, or a custom folder chosen via the system storage picker
• Recordings remain encrypted and isolated from public photo galleries
• Tap Download to decrypt and export a selected copy to your device media library
• Download keeps the encrypted vault original intact
• Playback uses a temporary app cache

📍 OPTIONAL LOCATION CONTEXT
Attach context when recording begins:
• Off by default; attach last-known approximate or precise location fix only when permitted
• Location is attached solely to that specific recording; no continuous tracking or background location requests
