SMS Backup & Restore Pro is a paid, ad-free Android app that backs up and restores SMS, MMS, and call logs. It creates local backups by default and can optionally upload to Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. Backups are stored in XML and can be encrypted and compressed for security and space savings. WebDAV is supported as a backup location for added flexibility.

Key features include selective backups and restores by conversation, scheduled automatic backups, viewing and searching backups, and fast transfers between two phones over WiFi Direct. You can email a backup file or transfer it between devices; note that restoration requires an existing backup and cannot recover data without one.

I wanted a backup to allow me to delete messages to free up storage space. This app FIRST makes a backup copy on local device. Backup fails because I don't have enough local storage. Um really? Kind of the whole reason I wanted to use the app! Will be finding another.

works well once you sort out the weird stuff Android does. The only thing I've noticed is that when I'm at around 9300 messages backed up it will drop back to around 8900. I'm not sure if I've lost some or not.
