Penates — Packing Lists

Penates is a packing app that does not try to guess what you need.

Every other app in this corner of the store is built around an assistant. It asks where you are going, for how long, what you will be doing, checks the weather, and hands you a list. Read the reviews from people who travel a lot and they say the same thing over and over: it gets in the way. It forces you down a path you cannot leave, it guesses wrong, and it never learns.

Penates turns that around. You own the catalogue and you own the templates. The app remembers and counts.

A SECOND LIST FOR THE WAY HOME

Every bag has two faces. The front is the outbound list. Turn the tag over and you get a return list, showing what you packed and what has not come home yet. No other packing app models the journey back — they all stop at the airport.

• Tap anywhere on a row to tick it, not a tiny box in the corner
• Change quantities in the row itself, never on another screen
• Type whatever you want. Suggestions help; they never restrict
• Drag to reorder, and it stays reordered after you leave the screen
• Group by category or keep a flat list — remembered per bag, not globally
• Swipe to delete, with five seconds to take it back
• Copy a bag or a whole trip in one tap; the ticks reset for you
• The progress is always on screen. You never have to count

TEMPLATES THAT LEARN FROM REAL TRIPS

Eight to start from: weekend, beach, city break, business trip, mountains, documents and essentials, wash bag, electronics. Change them, make your own, and — the part nobody else has — push a finished bag back into its template.

Got home and realised the plug adapter was missing again? Add it to the bag and send it up to the template. Next trip it is already there. The app learns from your trips, not from an algorithm.

No account. No sign-up. No ads. No tracking. No analytics.

Penates requests no permissions at all — not even internet access. It is not that we promise not to send your data anywhere; the app is not able to. Everything lives in a database on your device.

Export everything to a JSON file whenever you like, and import it back. That file is yours.

It works on a plane, in a basement, and in a country where your phone has no signal. It has never needed a connection and it never will.
