Review summary

Mini Chess offers quick, fun, and accessible gameplay, suitable for learning and casual play, with a simple interface and choice of difficulty. However, users report the AI being too easy, confusion between stalemate and checkmate rules, annoying check alerts without disable options, ineffective online play due to inactive users, and occasional crashes.

  • Free with non-intrusive advertisements.
  • Allows choosing difficulty levels and playing alone or with another person.
  • Good for learning and practicing chess.
  • Simple and cute interface making it enjoyable.
Cons
  • AI difficulty is very easy, even on hard level.
  • Incorrect handling of chess rules, especially confusing stalemate with checkmate.
  • Check announcements can be annoying and there is no option to disable them.
  • Online multiplayer is ineffective due to lack of active players.
  • Frequent crashes reported by some users.

Enjoyable. Online doesn't work that well since no one is playing online. More variants (stuff like L'Hermitte chess or Mallett 6*6 chess)would be nice. Having more board sizes (like 5*6, 5*5, 4*8, etc.) would be nice as well. Would recommend if you want to play a quick game on the go .

Useless. Very very easy. And when it says "CHECK". Unbearable. Edit: to reply, yes, the hard level is actually not hard. I played the 3 levels. The "check" pause is very annoying. Just to let you know. Check is not that important.

I enjoyed this game a lot! Just be aware that the makers were a little confused about what constitutes a checkmate. If in the game you create a stalemate (i.e. your opponent has no legal moves but their king is not being threatened), the game will mistakenly count it as checkmate in your favor.

"Hard" is literally not hard. "Stalemate" is given with insufficient material (this wouldn't be stalemate), and in the case of actual stalemate, it's considered the player who can still move's victory. Good idea but a serious lack of competition. EDIT: In response to devs, as for "highly competent", i am literally 1350 ELO. Not that much of a highly competent chess player. And it doesn't explajn stalemate giving a draw EDIT: also please enable us to turn the CHECK announcement off in settings.
