This is a tanka (Japanese short poem) app for quiet reading, containing 600 tanka poems from the Nara period's Manyoshu anthology to the early Showa period, all in the public domain (copyright expired).

97 poems related to the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu have dedicated themes, making them a great entry point to familiarizing yourself with tanka.

In addition to the original text in old kana, the app includes a modern Japanese translation, commentary, vocabulary definitions, and even a "point that moves the heart," allowing you to follow the meaning even if you're not comfortable with classical Japanese. The poet's name also includes a link to Wikipedia.

You can register your favorite poems with a star. They will be saved on your device, so you can open them anytime you want to reread them.
