NurGuard Shield

NurGuard Shield is a faith-based content blocker for Muslims who want a healthier, more intentional relationship with their phone.

Everything in this app is free. There is no in-app purchase, no price, and no locked or premium feature.

What's inside the app:

- Content filtering: Pornography and gambling are blocked at the network level, so the page stops loading rather than being hidden after the fact. You choose the categories, and you can add your own sites and apps.

- Niyyah Gate: A calm pause that asks you to set your intention before opening an app you've chosen to restrict. Never an alarm, never a shame screen — a moment to stop and choose.

- Sacred Hours: Prayer-time-aware schedules that hold deeper protection during salah and the hours you tend to struggle.

- When it's hard: A panic screen for the moment an urge hits, and a mercy-framed reset for after a slip — your history is kept, and nothing scolds you.

- Tamper alerts: If you choose, someone you trust is told when the shield comes down, so a hard moment doesn't stay hidden.

Privacy: NurGuard never stores or transmits your browsing history, your DNS queries, or anything on your screen. There are no third-party ad or tracking SDKs, and there never will be.

NurGuard Shield needs a free account, because your blocking rules and protection settings are stored on your profile rather than on one device. Creating one takes a few seconds and costs nothing.

VpnService: NurGuard uses Android's VpnService to run an on-device content filter that blocks pornographic and gambling websites. The VPN routes only DNS (domain-name lookups) — not your web traffic — checking each lookup against NurGuard's blocklist and resolving allowed domains through a secure resolver. It also prevents bypass attempts through encrypted DNS. This filtering is core to how NurGuard protects you and is required for the app to function. NurGuard does not read, route, or store the content of your browsing.

Accessibility Service: NurGuard uses the Accessibility Service API to power the Niyyah Gate — its mindful-pause and app-limit feature. When you choose to place a distracting app behind the Gate, the service detects when that app is opened so NurGuard can show a brief pause or limit screen first. It only reads which app is in the foreground — we do not collect personal information, and this stays on-device.
