Nitya Gita - Daily Shloka Android

Nitya Gita - Daily Shloka

Start each day with one Bhagavad Gita verse. Offline, ad-free, no sign-up.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Open the app. One shloka is waiting. That is the whole promise.

Nitya Gita gives you a single verse from the Bhagavad Gita every morning. The Sanskrit appears in Devanagari, the Roman (IAST) transliteration sits just below for readers who are learning the script, and the English meaning is drawn from Swami Sivananda's well-known translation (Divine Life Society, public domain in India). Nothing is rushed. There is room to actually read.

Why another Gita app? Because most of them stack ten features on the home screen and forget the one thing that matters: one verse, read slowly. If you want deeper reading later, tap through to the full chapter. If you do not, close the app. The day is yours.

WHAT IS INSIDE

• Today's verse on the home screen. Large type, soft saffron and cream palette, easy on the eyes at 6 in the morning.
• A home screen widget. Drop it on your launcher and it refreshes once a day on its own. Zero taps.
• A gentle daily reminder at whatever time suits you. Default is 7 am. Turn it off in one tap if you would rather not be nudged.
• All 18 chapters, 700 verses, ready to browse. Jump to any verse you remember.
• Search by keyword like "duty" or "action", or by reference like "2.47", and land on the exact shloka.
• Tap Save on any verse to file it under Favorites. Find it again in two taps.
• Tap Share to export the verse as a clean image card for WhatsApp, Instagram status, or your family group. The card carries the Sanskrit, the meaning, and a small watermark. People actually read it.

NO STRINGS

No account. No email signup. No paywall. No subscription. No ads. No tracking. The app does not even request internet permission, because nothing is sent anywhere. The complete dataset is bundled inside the app, roughly half a megabyte.

BUILT WITH CARE

Devanagari uses Noto Serif Devanagari so ligatures render correctly even on older phones. English uses a classical serif picked for scripture, not a default UI font. Dark mode is included. Font size adjusts to three scales for readers who want larger text.

CREDITS

Sanskrit text and English translation: Bhagavad Gita, translation by Swami Sivananda, Divine Life Society, public domain in India. Transliteration is generated with the open source sanscript library. Full credits are inside the app under Settings.

WHO IS THIS FOR

If you grew up hearing the Gita at home and want a small daily touchpoint, this is for you. If you are new to it and want a slow, unpushy way in, it works for you too. The app does not argue any philosophy and has nothing to sell. One verse a day, and that is all.

A note from the developer. This is a solo project. If something feels off or you want a feature, write to mithubrahma94@gmail.com. A real person reads every message and a real person replies.
