Phone by NAIL is a privacy-preserving AI-powered phone app that augments calls with productivity and security features. Take notes, get answers or hints, or create illustrations during a call — for business or fun. The app offers three modes for processing call data: offline, private, and unencrypted. Offline mode is the most secure, but AI capabilities are limited. Unencrypted mode works like most popular AI services — privacy is guaranteed by policies rather than technology. Private mode uses confidential computing for speech recognition and LLM inference, so no one can listen to your calls or read call transcripts.

Getting information or suggestions during a call can help when you need to de-escalate a situation, find better arguments in a sales call, or get help during a phone interview. Scam detection uses on-device speech processing only and can trigger alerts or automatically disconnect suspicious calls from unknown callers. This can help protect less scam-aware relatives from losing money to phone scams.
