FFMA

The Fisher Friend Mobile Application (FFMA) is a pioneering Android app developed by the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) in partnership with Qualcomm to serve small-scale fishers across coastal India. It provides critical, real-time data sourced from the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) including Potential Fishing Zones (PFZ), ocean state forecasts such as wave height and wind speed, weather disaster alerts, and navigation tools like GPS and compass for safe fishing operations.

FFMA supports multiple Indian regional languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Odiya, Bangla, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, and English, making it widely accessible. The app also offers information on government schemes, benevolent entitlements for fishers, emergency SOS features, and tracking of fishing routes. While FFMA provides publicly sourced data to aid informed decision-making, it is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government authority. This free app aims to enhance the safety, efficiency, and livelihood of India's fishing communities through accessible technology.
