User Reviews

Most reviews converge on instability and setup friction. The top issues are crashes and login failures, OS/device compatibility problems, and unreliable Bluetooth pairing. Registration hurdles and map download glitches further reduce usability. While some users praise the design and see value in radio integration, reliability and ease of use—especially in field contexts—are the main concerns.
Pros
  • App design is described as well designed by some users.
  • Some reviewers express positive sentiment (e.g., Good/Great/Love y'all/❤️).
  • Users see potential value in the app for supporting radio communication in the field.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and login failures; the app often closes or restarts.
  • Android compatibility issues across devices/OS versions (e.g., Pixel 7/8 Pro, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Android 14).
  • Bluetooth pairing problems (only one radio can be paired; repeated retries; unreliable connections).
  • Account creation and verification add friction and sometimes fail.
  • Map download crashes and location sharing limitations when not everyone uses the app with Bluetooth and mobile data.

I just want to send messages to my radio and then my hiking partner, but you need to make an account and verify your email and do all sorts of things: if you need my email address then I have cell service and I don't need the radios! they should strip out everything that's not related to communicating via the radio!

The app appears well designed, but when you try to use it, you realize it is half-baked. I bought very expensive Talkabout T802 radios, but most of their features rely completely on the phone app. You can only pair one radio to your phone at a time, app is glitchy, the error messages are not helpful. The features are cool in theory, but not robust at all. Maybe Motorola should hire some more engineers and get feedback from people who actually use radios in the field.
