User Reviews

Reality Check Chess offers a novel method to improve chess through master-featured positions, and users appreciate the absence of ads and simple design. However, multiple reviews point out problems with the accuracy of chess engine evaluations, buggy gameplay elements, and limited customization including sound and visuals. Users recommend improvements in UI smoothness, puzzle quality, and additional features like offline play and sound settings for a better overall experience.
Pros
  • Helps improve chess skills, especially for players around 1500 elo with potential to reach higher levels.
  • Unique "masters" feature that offers challenging positions based on master-level games.
  • No ads in the current version, leading to a better user experience.
  • Simple and effective app concept for chess improvement.
  • Good potential and some users find it fun and enjoyable.
Cons
  • Chess engine evaluation is sometimes inaccurate with many moves and positions labeled wrong or unclear.
  • App interface is sketchy and needs improvements such as piece animation, UI polish, and customizable board and pieces.
  • Puzzles sometimes contain losing positions or have incorrect or unclear solutions, reducing their educational value.
  • Sound options are lacking; users cannot mute or customize sounds, which can be annoying.
  • Ads were previously very intrusive for some users, although improved in later versions.
  • Gameplay bugs like freezing on pawn promotion and inability to castle in certain games.
  • Lack of offline mode and limited customization increases dissatisfaction.

So many positions and moves are found wrong by the chess engine and highly unlikely to be the correct move un those situations

Love the concept of the "masters" feature! It is incredibly helpful if you want to break through 1500 elo, and i believe with enough dedication you can reach 2000 elo. I was a 1500 player for years, and since i started playing the "masters" r within a month, i am already a 1600 elo player. However, i am still deciding whether i need to subscribe to the premium membership. What are the advantages when it comes to the "masters" feature? How many positions are in total in the free version?
