In 1918, Charles Schwab — president of the largest steel company in America — asked consultant Ivy Lee to boost his team's productivity. Lee's advice was simple:

1. At the end of each day, write down the 6 most important things for tomorrow
2. Number them in order of importance
3. The next day, start with #1 and don't move on until it's done
4. Move unfinished items to tomorrow's list
5. Repeat every day

This method transformed the company's productivity. Schwab paid Lee the equivalent of $500,000 in today's money — for just five steps.
