Sitamarhi Police

Sitamarhi is a city and district located in the Tirhut division of the Bihar state of the Republic of India. It is the main city of the cultural Mithila region, which is mentioned in the mythological legends as the birthplace of Sita. This Hindu pilgrimage site recorded in Tretayugin legends is one of the major tourist places of Bihar. Due to the birth of Sita, the name of this city was first Sitamarai, then Sitamahi and later Sitamarhi. The city is situated on the banks of the river Lakshmana (present day Lakhandei). It was an important part of Mithila kingdom during the Ramayana period. In 1908 AD it became part of Muzaffarpur district. After independence, it was separated from Muzaffarpur in 1972 and became an independent district. Located in the northern Gangetic plain of Bihar, this district is sensitive due to being on the border of Nepal. Maithili and Bajjika are spoken here. But Hindi and Urdu are the official language and medium of instruction. The local culture, tradition and religiosity of the Ramayana period are similar to that of the Terai region of Nepal and Mithila. At present it is a district and major tourist destination of Bihar state under Tirhut Commissionerate. A total of 17 blocks and 24 police stations have been established in Sitamarhi district to provide a safe environment to the citizens. In case of any problem, one can easily reach or contact the nearest police station for assistance. The city is monitored 24x7 through CCTV from the INTEGRATED CONTOL ROOM. All vehicles of Sitamarhi Police are equipped with GPS, which shows their real time location.
