Features & Capabilities

Mountaineering puts the U.S. Army field manual Military Mountaineering, FM 3-97.61 (August 2002) on your Android device for offline reading. Explore 11 chapters covering mountain terrain, weather, equipment, knots, anchors, climbing, snow and ice travel, stream crossings, and mountain rescue. The app also includes three appendices, a glossary, references, and nearly 200 photos, drawings, and tables, with pinch-to-zoom for text and figures.

The manual is a public-domain U.S. government publication, but it has been replaced by newer Army publications, so some techniques and equipment may be out of date. Mountaineering is dangerous; this reference is no substitute for instruction from a qualified instructor. The app is independently developed and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Army or Department of Defense.

User Reviews

Reviews are mostly positive, especially about the app’s usefulness as a mountaineering reference. Outdated information, a request for an update, and blank chapter pages were each mentioned only once, so they are not included as repeated concerns.
