Rule Hunter

Every puzzle shows you a few solved examples. Your job is to work out the rule
that turns one number into another — and then use it on the one that's missing.

No timer is counting down. You have no lives to lose. A wrong answer just says
so and lets you try again, as many times as you need.

FIVE DIFFICULTIES

Easy asks for a single step. Master asks for three, and hides the rule inside
shapes that make you work out which number belongs to which before you can even
start calculating. Each difficulty mixes several kinds of puzzle, so nothing
turns into a routine.

SEVEN WAYS TO HIDE A RULE

• Rows — a number goes in, a number comes out
• Symbols — fruit stands in for numbers, and you solve for what each one hides
• Wheel — inputs and results sit around a circle, and each result is across
from the number it came from, never next to it
• Cluster — three numbers feed a single result
• Octagon — four corners share four sides, and the missing corner is found by
running the rule backwards
• Triangle — two numbers meet and produce one
• Sequences — each term is built from the ones before it

EVERY PUZZLE HAS EXACTLY ONE ANSWER

This is not a guessing game. Before a puzzle is shown to you, it is checked
against the whole rule catalogue: if any other rule could explain the same
examples but give a different answer, the puzzle is thrown away and a new one
is built. What you see always has one defensible solution.

AND YOU FIND OUT WHY

When you solve it, the rule is spelled out in plain words. You never walk away
from a puzzle wondering what the answer was supposed to mean.

you. "Solution" simply gives you the number.
