Verträglich? Scan & Allergene

By: A. Maj App
Scan the barcode to see if a food item is suitable for your allergies.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Tolerated? helps you with your shopping: Scan the barcode and instantly see if a food contains ingredients you need to be aware of.

Define once what you are intolerant to or don't want to eat. With each scan, the app compares the product data with your profile and clearly displays one of three results:

• Warning – with the ingredients that match your filters

• No matches – nothing was found in the product data

• Incomplete – information is missing to verify the product

The app never says "safe." If data is missing, you'll be notified, instead of getting a false sense of security.

WHAT THE APP LOOKS FOR

Allergens – all 14 major allergens in the EU that must be declared:

Gluten, milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, celery, mustard, sesame, lupin, sulfites

Intolerances:

• Lactose
• Fructose malabsorption – free fructose, sugar alcohols, and fructans, also indicated in the nutritional information
• Hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) – stricter testing, also for table sugar, sorbitol, and fruit

• Sorbitol
• Histamine – ingredients high in histamine and ingredients that can release histamine

Dietary:

• Vegan
• Vegetarian
• Palm oil-free

Traces ("May contain traces of…") are also displayed.

FOUND IN…

If there is a match, you can see which ingredient is causing it, for example, "Milk – found in: skimmed milk powder." The check relies on Open Food Facts' language-independent ingredient recognition and therefore also works for products from your vacation or with foreign-language packaging. Ingredients that the database cannot identify are clearly displayed as "not recognized" by the app.

NUTRITIONAL VALUES AND CARBOHYDRATES

• Traffic light nutritional information for sugar, fat, saturated fat, and salt

• Carbohydrates optionally displayed in grams (CHO), carbohydrate units (CU), or bread units (BU) – per 100 g and, where specified, per serving. This is particularly useful for people with diabetes.

HISTORY

All scanned products are saved in your history, which can also be accessed offline. If you change your profile, you can review your history with a swipe.

YOUR DATA STAYS WITH YOU

• No account, no registration
• Your profile and history remain on your device

• When scanning, only the barcode is sent to Open Food Facts, never your profile

• No camera permission required – the scanner comes from Google Play Services

FREE

"Tolerable?" is free and ad-supported. Watch a short video and scan for 24 hours without ads.

DATA SOURCE

The product data comes from Open Food Facts, a free database maintained by volunteers. If you can't find a product or information is incomplete, you can add it directly there – helping everyone.

The app is available in German and French.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

"Tolerable?" is a guide and not a medical device. Product data may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect, and recipes change. The app does not replace the information on the packaging or medical advice. Always check the packaging if you have allergies.
