Measure light in lux with your phone.
urn your Android phone into a simple light meter — no ads, no tracking,
no permissions, no internet required.
Lux Meter is a clean, no-nonsense illuminance meter for everyday use.
Point the top of your phone (where the light sensor sits, near the front
camera) toward the light and read the current brightness in lux on a
smooth analog-style gauge, with a large numeric readout and a plain-
English light-level label (Dark, Dim, Indoor, Bright, Daylight, Sunlight).
★ KEY FEATURES
• Live analog-style gauge with a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100,000 lux,
so both a dim bedroom and direct sunlight read clearly on one dial
• Large numeric readout in lux, smoothed for a steady, readable value
• Plain-English light-level label — know at a glance whether a room is
Dark, Dim, Indoor, Bright, Daylight, or Sunlight
• Session MIN and MAX values with a one-tap Reset
• Day / Night mode toggle — high-contrast white UI for outdoor sunlight,
deep-dark UI for measuring in low light without dazzling yourself
• Keeps the screen on while in use, so the reading is always visible
• Your preferred mode is remembered between sessions
★ HOW TO USE
1. Open Lux Meter and point the top edge of your phone toward the light
source. The ambient light sensor usually sits near the front camera.
2. Read the current level from the gauge and the large lux number.
3. The label below the number translates the value into plain English.
4. Watch MIN and MAX to capture the range as you move around a room;
tap Reset to start a fresh measurement.
5. Tap the sun / moon icon in the top-right corner to switch between Day
(high-contrast white) and Night (deep-dark) mode.
★ WHY YOU'LL LIKE IT
• ZERO ADS. No banners, no pop-ups, no video interstitials, ever.
• ZERO PERMISSIONS. The App never asks for camera, microphone, location,
contacts, storage, or anything else.
• ZERO TRACKING. No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising SDKs.
Nothing about you is collected or transmitted.
• FULLY OFFLINE. No network code at all — works anywhere.
• TINY DOWNLOAD. No bloat, no background services, no battery drain.
• PRIVACY POLICY YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ. One short page that says, in
plain English: we collect nothing.
★ TECHNICAL NOTES
Lux Meter reads your device's built-in ambient light sensor — the same
sensor Android uses for automatic screen brightness. The sensor is read
only while the App is in the foreground, and the screen is kept awake
so the reading never disappears mid-measurement.
Readings are estimates from the device's ambient light sensor, not a
professional instrument. Accuracy varies between phone models, and a
screen protector or case partially covering the sensor opening will
lower the measured value. Lux Meter is ideal for everyday comparisons
and order-of-magnitude checks; for certified measurements (workplace
compliance, laboratory work), use a dedicated calibrated instrument.
Typical reference points: moonlight is well under 1 lx, a dim hallway
around 10 lx, a comfortable living room 100–300 lx, a well-lit office
300–500 lx, an overcast day 1,000–10,000 lx, and direct sunlight can
exceed 100,000 lx.
★ COMPATIBILITY
• Android 7.0 (Nougat, API 24) and above
• Optimised for phones in portrait orientation
• Requires a device with an ambient light sensor (standard on
virtually all modern Android phones)
We hope Lux Meter earns a permanent spot in your phone's utility
folder. If you have feedback, please reach out.
