User Reviews

The LibraryThing Android app offers valuable barcode scanning and on-the-go cataloging, with some reviewers praising its potential and design. However, it is plagued by instability: frequent crashes on deletion or editing, scanning-related duplicates or misreads, and session interruptions, plus slow catalog loading. The core functionality is appreciated, but users repeatedly report reliability issues that limit smooth use.
Pros
  • Barcode scanning enables quick addition of books to the catalog.
  • The app serves as a convenient mobile companion for LibraryThing and supports on-the-go cataloging.
  • Easy to add books from the app.
  • Some reviewers find the app well designed and among the best cataloging apps they've tried.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes, especially when deleting or editing entries.
  • Barcode scanning often misreads or duplicates books, creating incorrect or multiple entries.
  • Inability to delete duplicates or erroneous entries due to crashes of the delete operation.
  • Random crashes or logouts disrupt usage.
  • Slow loading of the catalog and overall instability.

I'm just getting started but so far I really like all that it provides. Pretty easy to maneuver around, but until you get used to it, it may take some patience. I'm just trying to find the barcode scanner to use my phones camera to scan the books, but even with what and where to find it, I have no clue. They tell me to look for the "catalog page", we'll, i gave not seen anything that says catalog. I've found "add books" or "import books" but thete is no barcode an either of those pages.

Installed, scanned first book, by accident scanned it twice and the app crashed each time I tried to remove it.
