Lexo Offline AI Voice Keyboard

Lexo is a private AI keyboard for Android. Voice typing and next-word prediction both run entirely on device, so the keyboard keeps working with no internet connection, in airplane mode, and anywhere the signal drops.

Cloud keyboards are thin clients: what you type travels to a server, a model there decides what you meant, and the answer travels back. Lexo puts the models on your phone instead. A speech recognizer and a small language model download once, then live in the app's private storage. Nothing you type or say is uploaded to be processed. No server in the loop, no account, no ads.

Offline voice typing

Why local AI changes the typing experience
- No latency floor. Suggestions do not wait on a round trip, so the strip keeps up with a fast thumb.
- No dead zones. A plane, a basement, a tunnel, a prepaid SIM with no data left: offline AI behaves the same everywhere.
- No quiet uploads. Privacy here is a property of where the model runs, not a setting you switch on.

Private because of how it is built
- Once setup is done, typing and dictating generate no network traffic. Check it yourself with a network monitor.
- Internet access is used for the one-time model download, Google Play billing, and crash reports, which stay off unless you turn them on in Settings.
- The permission list is short: microphone for dictation, vibration for key feedback, notifications for download progress, plus internet and network state.
- No keystroke logging, no typed text in analytics, no profile built from what you write.

Lexo Premium adds the three features the on-device models power: offline voice typing, AI next-word prediction, and glide typing (swipe across the letters to write a word). Every install starts with a 30-day trial of Premium. After that it is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, and there are no ads either way.

About the first-run download
Setting up downloads about 1.1 GB of models over Wi-Fi, once. App updates do not re-download them. That size is what it costs to run speech recognition and a language model on the phone instead of in a data center.

Getting started
Enable Lexo in your phone's keyboard settings, choose a language, and let the models download over Wi-Fi. After that the keyboard works the same in every app, online or off.

Built on the open-source FlorisBoard project, with open-weight models: SmolLM2, Qwen2.5 and KB-Whisper (Apache-2.0), a Turkish GPT-2 fine-tune (MIT), Gemma (Gemma Terms of Use) and NVIDIA Parakeet (CC-BY-4.0). Lexo is in active development and feedback shapes what comes next.
