Review summary

Reviewers often enjoy Gravity’s immersive, entertaining approach and find it useful for learning everyday vocabulary from media. They also like its saved-word and quiz features. The most common concerns are the cost and restricted free access, as well as subtitle or translation errors that can undermine learning.

Pros

  • Makes Japanese immersion engaging through videos, feeds, and enjoyable, low-pressure learning.
  • Helps learners pick up practical vocabulary and makes sentence mining from everyday media easier.
  • Saved words, flashcards, and post-video quizzes help reinforce vocabulary; reviewers also praised the app’s simple interface.

Cons

  • The subscription/paywall is a recurring frustration, with multiple reviewers finding the price too high or free access too limited.
  • Generated subtitles and translations can be inaccurate or mismatched with the audio, making the app less reliable for study.

just checked it out, while i don't really need this app anymore its actually really damn good!

7 pounds a month or 50 pounds a year is a lot to pay for subtitles on someone else's videos. They are free on YouTube.

love the idea of the app but think it lacks some directionality to really help those improve. right idea but not solidified. things id love to see: .75x speed, often .5 feels too slow and 1x is too fast. would also love a real guide in how to maximize your learning with the app, showing us how to take the passive style of learning and really apply it further then saving words. feels like your given the keys but not the instructions to be successful.

I would only use this for learning new words. learn the grammar and basics elsewhere because it is not always 100% accurate. especially when a sentence continues onto another section separately. it seems to guess the first part and then tag the second part on incorrectly. but it is still amazing for learning new words and how different media forms use them.

Concept is cool, but the translations when watching videos are inaccurate and don't make sense most of the time. This is similar to if you google lens japanese text and get nonsense

would give it 0 it doesn't let you do anything without paying not including the "trial period" which I don't count because it just means you'll have to pay when it's over. at that point you might as well make it a paid app.

A great app for learning practical, everyday Japanese vocabulary. My only issue is that words you struggle with don't come back for review. An Anki-style spaced repetition system that focuses on words you haven't mastered would make this a 5-star app!

paid app - cool concept, first day I managed to do a section, tried again a couple days later and am forced to subscribe

Too many mistakes in subtitles to comsider as a serious tool, and for CAD$60 a year? add a lifetime and reduce price by alot and i would think about it. if it was $30 for lifetime i would, its just another ai language learning tool
