Due to appearance standards failing to meet,
approximately 1.3 billion tons of agricultural products are discarded worldwide each year. This represents approximately one-third of total food production (FAO, 2019).

In Korea, approximately 22% of fruits are discarded due to being out of grade, resulting in an estimated annual loss of up to 5 trillion won (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, 2024).
