User Reviews

Piconica is loved for its ultra-low latency, simple and fun retro synth experience, and tiny footprint, ideal for chiptune melodies and quick practice. The main recurring downside is flaky external MIDI support, with timeouts and disconnections on several keyboards. Some users also hint at future requests like MIDI over WiFi and MIDI file import. Overall it’s a lightweight, enjoyable tool with strong retro vibes, used across devices.

Pros

Ultra-low latency and smooth performance for responsive playing
Simple, fun to use with a charming NES/8-bit retro synth vibe
Very small app size; lightweight
Great for practicing melodies, scales, and chiptune music
Longstanding, reliable across devices and years of use

Cons

MIDI connectivity with external keyboards often times out or disconnects (time-out errors on Q25, AKM320, Pixel 7 OTG), making external hardware unreliable
