User Reviews

Speak Pacific is praised for its unique, culturally valuable aim and beginner-friendly design, with potential benefits for children’s language learning. However, multiple reviews flag content gaps (limited country coverage), dialect/translation inaccuracies, and marketing promises that do not match the app’s current features. Some users also find it boring or not educational enough. Overall, it’s a promising start that would benefit from broader language coverage, better dialect handling, and alignment with marketing claims.
Pros
  • Unique concept focused on preserving Pacific languages; seen as one-of-a-kind by multiple reviewers.
  • User-friendly design and interface.
  • Beginner-friendly; good for beginners to intermediate learners.
  • Positive impact on language learning and cultural preservation; can help children learn native languages.
  • Positive mentions of learning specific languages like Tokelauan.
Cons
  • Limited content coverage; only about 7 Pacific countries, with several like Tuvalu and Kiribati missing.
  • Dialect and translation accuracy issues; some translations use wrong dialects or mix Maori variants.
  • Marketing promises not met; ads claimed Maori availability that is not in the app.
  • Perceived low educational value or boring by some users.
Recent reviews
Some of this translation is in the mangaian dialect and not rarotongan, making it incorrect. Rarotonga being the main island and consisting of 15 other islands as well as different dialect makes learning te reo kuki airani challenging in my opinion.
