Features & Capabilities

AudioTool offers a comprehensive suite of audio measurement tools, including a SPL (decibel) meter with RT60 reverberation analysis, Leq (equivalent continuous noise level), Sone loudness measurements, and various Real-Time Analyzer (RTA) modes such as 1/1, 1/3, 1/6, and 1/12 octave bands. It also features a detailed spectrum analyzer with spectrogram and waterfall displays, chart recorder for SPL trends, and a versatile signal generator producing white/pink noise, sine, square, triangle waves, sweeps, warbles, and impulses.

Designed for audio engineers and enthusiasts, AudioTool supports microphone calibration for more accurate readings, plus a polarity checker for loudspeaker wiring verification. Its robust capabilities help with gig setups, home theater calibration, acoustic analysis, and automotive sound assessments. Users can store, load, and compare spectral data with live readings, zoom and pan graphs for detailed views, and customize parameters for professional-grade audio diagnostics. Recommended by "Sound and Vision" magazine, AudioTool empowers precise audio measurements on Android devices, although actual performance depends on hardware quality.

User Reviews

AudioTool is a powerful, feature-rich app praised for its affordability, professional-level capabilities, and excellent help resources. It works well with calibrated microphones like the Dayton iMM-6 and supports exporting data for further analysis. However, users report significant challenges with the outdated UI, confusing calibration file handling, bugs in signal and noise generation, permission-related startup glitches, and occasional stability and performance issues. Overall, while highly capable, the app would benefit greatly from improvements in usability and reliability.
Pros
  • Extensive and powerful audio analysis features suitable for both professionals and enthusiasts.
  • Good compatibility with popular calibrated microphones like Dayton Audio iMM-6.
  • Comprehensive help/manual section that clearly explains each feature with visuals.
  • Affordable price point offering capabilities comparable to much pricier software.
  • Ability to save and export measurement data for further analysis (e.g., CSV export for REW).
Cons
  • User interface (UI) is dated, poorly designed, and sometimes unintuitive, causing difficulty in navigation and usage.
  • Calibration file management is confusing or missing, with users unable to find or load mic calibration files easily.
  • Signal generator and noise generation features have bugs, including issues with frequency limits and inaccurate tones.
  • App permissions related to microphone and storage sometimes cause initialization and permission glitches.
  • Some bugs affect graph displays, requiring app restarts to resolve.
  • Performance issues include slower operation compared to competitors and occasional unexpected volume limits on some devices.
