The Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, 2023 (RPC 2023) represent a major update to Nigeria’s legal ethics framework, replacing the 2007 Rules to reflect modern professional realities and evolving global standards. Issued by the General Council of the Bar on June 6, 2023, under Section 12(4) of the Legal Practitioners Act, the Rules came into full effect on January 1, 2024, after a transition period that ended on December 31, 2023.
