An ischemic stroke or brain attack occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is blocked and hence the brain is deprived of oxygen and nutrients. Brain cells begin to die in minutes.​

A stroke is a medical emergency, and prompt treatment is crucial. Early action can reduce brain damage and other complications.

Symptoms of Stroke are SUDDEN in nature of one or more of the following.
1) Sudden onset of weakness of one side of face​
2) Sudden onset of weakness or numbness of one side of the body​
3) Sudden onset of slurring of speech, difficulty in understanding others​
4) Sudden onset of loss of balance​
5) Sudden onset of blurring or loss of vision or double vision​\n6) Sudden onset of difficulty in swallowing​
7) Sudden and severe headache ​

Thrombolytic therapy is the treatment given to break up or dissolve blood clots in the blood vessels of the brain. The treatment is given to few eligible patients. The treatment needs to be given within 4 and half hours.​
