eSpeak TTS - Text to Speech is a compact, open-source offline speech synthesizer based on the popular eSpeak NG engine. This app allows you to use eSpeak NG as a fully functional TTS backend on your Android Smartphones, and Tablets. It is lightweight, supports over 100+ languages, and works completely offline.
KEY FEATURES & HIGHLIGHTS:
1. 🌍 Bilingual Support (Two Languages & Two Voices): This is a unique feature designed for multilingual users. You can configure a Primary Language and a Secondary Language separately.
• Example: You can set Tamil as your primary language and English as your secondary language.
• Voice Switching: You can even assign two different voices (e.g., a male voice for Tamil and a female voice for English). The app will intelligently switch between voices while reading mixed-language text.
2. 🔢 Advanced Number Processing: We understand that screen reader users need precise control over how numbers are read. This app provides dedicated settings for this:
• Reading Styles: Choose how to read numbers—as Single Digits (1-2-3), Pairs (12-34), Triplets (123-456), or Full Words (One Thousand...).
• Smart Thresholds: You can set rules (e.g., "Read strictly as digits only if the number has more than 5 digits"). This is perfect for reading OTPs, phone numbers, and years correctly without confusion.
3. 🎛️ Complete Prosody Control: Customize the speech output to suit your hearing preferences:
• Speed & Pitch: Fine-tune the speaking rate and pitch.
• Volume & Inflection: Adjust volume independently and control the voice fluctuation (inflection) for a more natural or robotic tone as preferred.
4. 🔒 Privacy & Offline:
• 100% Offline: Does not require an internet connection. Your data stays on your device.
• Lightweight: Uses minimal storage and battery compared to other TTS engines.
IMPORTANT SETUP INSTRUCTIONS (Please Read):
1. ⚠️ INITIALIZATION (Crucial Step): After installing, DO NOT set it as the default engine immediately. Open the app first and wait a few seconds for the data extraction/initialization to complete. If you skip this, the engine may remain silent.
2. 🎧 MANDATORY TESTING: Before setting it as your system engine, tap the "Test Voice" button inside the app. If you hear the sample audio, the engine is ready.
3. ⚙️ SET AS SYSTEM DEFAULT: Once you are satisfied with the settings:
• On Android Phone/Tablet: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Text-to-Speech output > Select "eSpeak NG".
4. 🐞 TROUBLESHOOTING: If the app stops speaking after you "Clear Data" or reinstall, simply open the app once to re-initialize the voice data.
5. Battery Settings: For uninterrupted service (especially on Poco/OnePlus/Samsung), allow the app to "Run in background" when prompted.
